The Davis foundation is a truly worldwide, completely unique organisation. I have learnt a lot from them. I read and benefited from the book written by the founder Ronald D Davis, called the “The Gift of Dyslexia” ( also available on CD).

LDW is worldwide and has just launched a multilingual site. I found this site interesting as it informs the visitor about many learning disabilities.
Details of their Services:
Dealing with with many different lening difficulties;, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD, processing disorders, nonverbal LD, and suspected LD. It also explains their contemporary approach to assessing children with learning disabilities. There is a great deal of useful material provided and I think the wealth of information would benefit a wide audience.

This universal website has a different approach to the norm; it is more scientific but interesting to read.
Details of their Services:
The DORE individualised exercise programme is aimed at minimising or eliminating Cerebella Developmental Delay (CDD), the likely cause of many learning difficulties. The programme directly addresses the physiological source of the problem by using exercises that stimulate the cerebellum and allow you to process information more rapidly. An interesting, well established organisation and site with a community style feel to it. Covering everyone from educators to adults, parents, college students and teenagers. The 58th Annual Conference will be held in Dallas, Texas, November 3rd, 2007.

The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping individuals with dyslexia, their families and the communities that support them. IDA is the oldest learning disabilities organisation in the USA, founded in 1949, in memory of Dr. Samuel T. Orton, a distinguished neurologist. Through the years their goal has been to provide the most comprehensive forum for parents, educators and researchers to share their experiences, methods, and knowledge.

The BDA is one of the leading authorities on dyslexia. A small dynamic charity that provides information, advice and support to dyslexics and those they interact with. It lobbies and campaigns to change policy and practice so that dyslexics of all ages are not disadvantaged, and able to reach their individual full potential.

Simple Vision Lenses were developed to positively improve reading ability in individuals diagnosed with certain types of visual dyslexia. Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability referring to a cluster of symptoms, which result in individuals having difficulties with specific language skills, such as reading. Dyslexia is not due to lack of intelligence but how individuals process information in the brain. Studies conducted at the University of Southern California department of Neuroscience found evidence that dyslexics have difficulty in dealing with visual “noise”, causing trouble with focusing on key visual information that is necessary for reading and learning.

Details of their services:
We established an NPO (non-profit organization) to promote the knowledge of developmental dyslexia and provide support and tools, such as assessment and solutions, for the difficulties dyslexic people face. We support dyslexic children and adults through activities to alleviate their difficulties, and by providing society with a better understanding of dyslexia, the parents and teachers with a better way to cope with dyslexic children, and dyslexic children and adults with necessary support: PC’s, talking books, assisting volunteers or consulting. Founders of the organisation are mothers of dyslexic boys who studied in the UK and the USA and had support there, and thanks to this support were able to maximise their ability.

Move to Learn is an internationally established and recognised organisation providing a range of information, services and products to enable people to overcome learning difficulties.
Barbara Pheloung, the founder, spent over 35 years pioneering and developing techniques to overcome learning difficulties. A growing number of today's professionals, specialising in areas like LD, ADD, ADHD, Autism, Aspergers and Physical Disabilities, have adopted her techniques. In 2005 Move to Learn conducted research through the University of Sydney. The results have provided valuable insight into the relationship between body movement and learning.

Print is large and quite well spaced, making reading easier. Site devoted to Irlen Syndrome - type of dyslexia - a perceptual genetic disfunction. Disorganised magno cells in the mid-brain region cause a mis-timing of the visual message. These individuals are highly sensitive to certain light frequencies.
Details of their Services:
Irlen Coloured Lenses - Spectrally modified coloured filter lenses can correct the timing imbalance and normalise the evoked potential (brain patterns). The correct colour is vital as the wrong colour, according to Prof. Barbolini, Modena University Italy, can increase the blood flow to the posterior arteries of the brain and cause headaches and mis-processed information.

An easy to read site, not too busy, dedicated to their “new solution to dyslexia” – the Davis Dyslexia Correction Programme. They provide reading programme for young children and training for teachers, in their methods.
Details of their Services:
The Davis Dyslexia Correction Programme is a method of training dyslexics and others to control their sense of disorientation, which is responsible for their "dyslexic symptoms." They gain new understanding of their personal thinking and perceptual processes; learn self-help methods for controlling perception, and skills for eliminating confusion. A common sense approach based on the understanding of the strengths of the dyslexic mind and effectively combines an innovative teaching method with one-to-one learning to overcome dyslexia, ADD, and other problems.
